The CIA triad is the foundational model of information security. Confidentiality keeps information from unauthorized disclosure, integrity keeps it accurate and unaltered, and availability keeps it accessible when needed.
Most security controls exist to protect one or more of these properties, and risks are often described in terms of which of the three they threaten.
