High-Risk AI System

Under the EU AI Act, an AI system whose use poses significant risk to health, safety, or fundamental rights, subject to strict requirements.

The EU AI Act designates certain AI uses as high-risk, such as systems used in critical infrastructure, employment decisions, access to essential services, or law enforcement. These systems face strict obligations before and after they go to market.

Requirements include risk management, high-quality data, technical documentation, logging, transparency, human oversight, and conformity assessment. Most of the Act's compliance burden falls on this category.

Terms matter when they become defensible work.
