For some high-risk AI systems, the EU AI Act requires a third-party conformity assessment by a notified body. These bodies are designated and monitored by national authorities and listed centrally so the market can rely on them.
A notified body plays a role for AI similar to a certification body for management systems, but it assesses a product against the legal requirements rather than certifying a management system against a standard.
